Meet the Artist
I was born and raised in a small town in eastern Moldova—a place that, looking back now, feels like a little piece of heaven on earth.
Some of my strongest memories are of September and October, when the leaves began to change and the beginning of a new school year seemed to fill the air with possibility. Moldova’s quiet villages, winding rivers, rich colors, and changing seasons have stayed with me. Even when I am not intentionally painting Moldova, pieces of it seem to find their way onto my canvas.
I began creating art when I was around four years old. My father is also an artist and teaches at our local art school. He recognized something in me before I was old enough to recognize it in myself. He encouraged me to create, helped develop my natural ability, and taught me to see art as more than simply putting an image on paper.
Around the fifth grade, I entered an art competition, and my painting was later published in a local art magazine. That was the first time I began to understand that art was not only something I enjoyed—it was part of who I was.
A Window Somewhere Else
Creating gives me a sense of purpose.
When I paint, I move through every emotion. There is peace and deep concentration, usually accompanied by a little frustration when the canvas does not immediately look the way I imagined it. But that is part of the process. Slowly, the noise fades, the painting begins to take shape, and I find myself entering the world I am creating.
My work is colorful, vibrant, and hopeful. I like to think of each canvas as a window into an escape—a place where you can pause, imagine yourself inside the scene, and daydream for a while.
Nature is my greatest inspiration. I often return to green, but I am always exploring new textures, colors, and moods. I rarely overthink what deserves to become a painting. An idea simply appears, and if it stays with me, I continue refining it in my mind before the first brushstroke ever touches the canvas. If it disappears, perhaps it was never meant to be painted.
Many of my favorite pieces begin with nothing more than a feeling. I especially love creating one-of-one scenes entirely from my imagination—places that have never physically existed but somehow feel familiar. They often carry a dreamlike or fantastical quality. Sometimes, only after finishing a piece do I realize that a river, village, or landscape resembles the Moldova I carry within me.
Art With a Soul
I believe handmade art holds the emotions of the person who created it. Whether it is made with paint, clay, or another medium, the artist leaves something of themselves behind—a small piece of their soul.
That is what makes original art feel alive.
You do not simply look at it. You feel its presence, its story, and its atmosphere.
My faith deeply influences both my creative process and the way I see the world. I believe my talent comes from God, and I want to use it to show others the beauty, hope, and wonder that I see. My favorite mornings begin with a Nespresso on the back deck, listening to the birds and enjoying the stillness as I read my Bible. Afterward, I let the mood of the morning, the season, or the world around me guide my pencil across my sketchbook.
Sometimes, all I need is a few quiet minutes in prayer—disconnecting from everything else, becoming aware of the nature around me, and remembering that God is not only far away in Heaven. He is beside me, even in the quietest moments.
That same peace is what I hope my paintings offer to others.
I hope they remind you that, no matter what you are facing, things can get better. I hope they allow you to step outside your thoughts for a moment and escape somewhere beautiful. Most of all, I hope my art brings you peace when peace feels difficult to find anywhere else.
A New Chapter
I am naturally shy, quiet, and often far too critical of my own work. I do not always see my talent as clearly as the people who love me do. My husband, Zack, continually encourages me, believes in what I create, and pushes me to keep going. Our Australian Cattle Dog, Dimitri, contributes mostly by stealing my creative time—but he brings plenty of personality and joy into our home.
When I am not creating, I love reading a good book, spending time in nature, praying, and being with the close friends and family who helped give me the courage to share my work.
It is always an honor when someone chooses to bring one of my paintings into their home. Knowing that something created from my imagination will become part of another person’s space—and be seen by the people they care about most—is something I never take lightly.
Through Anne Marie Art, I hope to share more than beautiful images. I want to create work that carries a message, tells a story, and can be felt by people around the world.
I also hope my journey reaches another little girl somewhere who quietly believes she is not talented enough or simply not enough. I hope she discovers what I am still learning myself:
She is more than enough.
And the gift inside her is worth sharing.
